..would appreciate any info..pros and cons...common problems etc.

..how readily available are parts and from who? I'm in Oz

.
....any comment will be most appreciated

I ride a '70 T100C ... same basic thing, only with one carb instead of 2 ... Very fun bike. Light, nimble, likes to rev ... I certainly enjoy the heck out of it! I know I've had no problem coming up with parts here in the States ... can't speak for the land of Oz, though. There are quite a few people on this board who have 500s and there is a wealth of knowledge here. The bikes are simple to work on if you have the documentation. If you can work on a BSA, the unit 500 Triumph will be a cinch!

..thanks for the usefull info t100rc....I have just found a likely bike..a 1973 Daytona 100 that has been about 95% restored...but the owner is away until mid May so wont be able to lay my eyes on it until then.....do these bikes have any common problems that I should look for upon inspection...and with the higher revving motor what sort of Klms would you expect, given that it ain't trashed, to get out of a motor before a pull down.....yeah the BSA was finnicky enough alright..but I imagine a lot of the basic setup would be very similar to the trump...so hopefully there wont be too many suprises...

..another question while I'm at it...the owner says the clutch slips at about 5000 rpm...has a new clutch....have you ever heard of this...and if so possible causes..

cheers

Ian

5 possible causes ;-

1. Incorrect Adjustment - easy to adjust
2. Weak Pressure Plate Springs - easy to swap out
3. Worn Friction plates - again, easy to swap.
4. Glazed plain plates
5. Using synthetic oil

i say if the price is right for you.... do it!
as an owner of a '69 T100S, I think the 500's are one of Triumph's sweetest designs. very nimble. very quick. point and squirt. easy to work on.
as far as clutch.. i would check push rod adjustment first.

wolly..thanks for the info..new clutch so plates should be ok...guess comes down to adjustment and type of oil....I'll check it out with owner..

..NHOJ....sounds good to me...I think I'm a convert...so I'm looking forward to having a squirt ...they are few and far between around here...so trying out a few for comparison is not an option.....the asking price is $6500 Aus ( $6114 US)....how does that compare with the asking price for a good one in your part of the world?

....I'll follow up with the adjustment on the clutch...thanks

Wow..!
i'd say a bit on the pricey side.
over here you could get a really sweet T100, around the same vintage,
for about $2500 to $3000 (US)...
but different parts of the would, command different prices.

i knew a guy that would spend a summer just buying up vintage british stuff.
when he had enough bikes to fill a container, he would ship it to australia, and sell them down there. he turned a tidy some too..

but at your price, i would expect the bike to be top notch. -j

...hmmm....maybe I'll do some more homework on prices....but does seem prices are a fair bit higher here....another fully restored 1965 is the same price $6500....and onother bloke wants $7500 for a 1970, which is as original..no restoration....wont be buying that one...
