serial number question

I have bought a TR6C 650 and am getting ready to do a restoration but wanted to begin with my serial number. left side of bike just below the cylinder reads, TR6C just below that PC 05165. everywhere i have looked has not had any reference to the letters PC. any help would be appreciated.

Hey, this is one that I can help with.

In 1969 Triumph changed to a lettering system where the First prefix letter indicates month of manufacture & the Second prefix letter indicates model year, then followed by the engine number.

P = November
C = 1969

For further info, see http://www.britishspares.com/41.php

As Triumph's model year started approx Sept of the previous year, this means your bike was made in November 1968, but still means that it is a 1969 model.

Also, have another look at the engine serial number, as the 1969 model had engine numbers DU85904 - DU90282

Last comment from me.

I found another bit of info from a parts catalogue for 1969 that says:

1969 Unit 650cc Parts catalogue USA Ref: book 26
Triumph TR6R Tiger 650, TR6C Trophy 650
T120R Bonneville 120
79 pages. Illustrated. Catalogue No.7
From Engine No. DU85904 to JC24849
USA edition

This suggests a different serial number range than the one I told you in my last response (ie DU85904 to JC24849, rather than DU85904 - DU90282). JC translates to a build of August 1969, which would of been the last month they built the 1969 model. This also makes sense why your early built 1969 model has a low number.

Can anyone else shed more light on this?

The actual engine number PC 05165
