rear brake master cyl, points and wires for a '78 t140V

Hi all
In the process of buying a heavily modified 1978 T140V. Current owner is telling me it needs the following to run. He tells me that if I can find the parts and provide them to him he will do the work. Can anyone tell me where I might find the following items for a 78 t140V?

A. Rear brake master cyl

B. Points

C. Wires that run to the points.

... Thanks, for the curious this bike was / is a flat track racer. Here's what's been done to the bike, I'll post pics when I can..

1. Front and rear fenders removed

2. "Racing" style aftermarket front end, with no front brake

3. "Racing" style fuel tank.

4. "Shorty" duel pipes coming directly off the motor and exiting under the bike

5. Solo race seat with built in mini fender.

6. drag style bars

since you dont say where you are located it is hard to say where to get parts parts you need.
I am highly suspect of the current owner as if he is smart enough to install the mentioned parts and has had a highly modified race bike for while he knows where to get parts.

The guy steveefer got the bike from most likely bought it already modded, and didn't know what he was buying (probably got a "great deal").

Any of the parts-selling sponsors on this forum can get you those parts.

Welcome aboard.
Try googling these parts suppliers:
MAP Cycle
British Cycle Supply
Klemph British Parts
British Only
Baxter Cycle
Rask Cycle
I have personally ordered parts from each one of these guys and had absolutely no problems. All, except British Only, will answer your questions about parts with a phone call.
In regards to the lack of response to your thread, its a little unclear what you are trying to do with the bike. Do you plan to race it or have you got a place to ride it as is? Are you trying to return it to street legal. If the latter, you are facing a lot of work and expense. There's currently another thread going about the advisability of returning a heavily modded bike back to stock, especially an OIF model. Give us a clue what you would like to do and I think people on this forum will be glad to jump in and try to help you.

If the parts you're looking for are stock, There should be no trouble finding them with the suppliers listed by htown. I ran into a situation where I had a non-stock point plate, and when I found that the stock points I ordered didn't fit, I sent in one of the old points for comparison and the supplier sent me the proper replacement. So it might take a bit of back and forth, but you will be able to get your parts through any one of those places.

It does seem odd that the current owner wants you to track the parts down for him to do the work. If you haven't already paid for it (which you shouldn't have without hearing it run), you might want to post a pic and a price so some of the knowledgeable folks on the forum can alert you if you are getting hosed (though they won't know, as you, whether the bike indeed runs well). If you search the forum for "buying advice" or similar things, you might get a better idea of price range and bargaining points.

Hope that helps.

I appreciate the response guys, truly. Here's some additional info that may help......

1. The current owner didn't mod the bike - it's changed hands no less then 5 times since purchased new, and the gentleman who modded it for racing and in fact raced it has been dead for years (old age and heart disease..not a wreck on the bonnie).

2. I'm located in Columbus, OH. However, the bike currently sits with it's current owner in Eastern ohio in a tiny town called Uhrichsville in a sparcely populated county called Tuscarawas..... Columbus is still probably the closest city of any size to the bike, and it's where I live.

3. I should have been clearer on the parts question, a simple bit of "googling" and a search around this forum showed me many, many parts suppliers that could get what I need. However, what I was really looking for was advice from anyone here on which one provided a quality product at a reasonible price and in a timely fashion based on your own experiences.

Thanks all.

I can only recommend British Only and Rask, as they are the only ones I have used. I am going to send my next order to MAP, though, just for comparison. In my experience, both British Only and Rask have delivered top-notch service and products. I would definitely recommend ordering the British Only parts catalog for your bike if you decide to purchase it; it makes ordering much easier no matter who you decide to go with, as it lists the part numbers with diagrams.

As I understand it, you want to keep the racing stuff intact but make the bike street legal. This shouldn't break the bank, but it will cost you, depending on what needs to be done. A rear master cylinder will cost a bit, probably around $150-$200. I personally would not spend that kind of money to allow the owner to fix a bike I hadn't bought; I would either give him a filled-out order form and tell him where to send the check or offer him a substantially lower (like 1/3) amount to take the bike in non-running condition (providing that it's already reasonably priced, engine turns over, etc.).

Let us know the things you need to add/change , and send pics as soon as possible.

Mitch Klempf out of Minnesota. 507 374 2222. (klempfs.com) Can't say if there is a fair price, but very knowledgable and will point you in the right direction depending on what your game plan is. I've been happy with all service and advice.
I haven't heard anyone else use them, but I was steered toward him and like I said, haven't had any complaints.
