Exclamation finding parts

Hoping someone might be able to point in the right direction Im having a hard time find a Choke lever and clip for a 79 bonniville 750. The one on my bike is rounded off from use so much that it wont lock down into the clip and my bike wont start without the choke being down. Any ideas how to address this problem, or a place to get the parts I need would be great.

an automobile ign key or a 1/4" square by 1" long piece of wood stuffed under the lever works wonders.

I was thinking of possible taking the spring off and making a shim that fit under it. Would this be possible? It looks a bit hard to get at but if i were to take it off and make shim that fit around the bolt and went up under the spring it would look better than a key or a peice of wood.

Convert it to handle bar mounted cable operation. Completely does away with the on / off situation of the stupid lever arrangement. It also gets you a vernier control so you can ride off and adjust the choke while you drive. Normally you have to wait for it to warm up or risk it stalling if you knock the lever off too soon... sound familiar?????
Roy.

My suggestion was based on what my customers did to get around the problem when the bikes were new or almost new in 79/80. While the fix may be in memory of Walt (MICKEY MOUSE) it was effective and cheap. Since I have no idea where in the world you are I can only suggest you start with you local Brit Bike parts seller. If you are in the states I would also rejet your carbs to Euro Specs. If you wish to convert to a handel bar mount choke you will need a lever 3 cables a junction block and various enrichner parts (not an inexpensive solution with the current dollar/pound situation). My first move would to be to rejet (again not cheap) as the EPA really screwed up these carbs and use a block of wood to hold up the lever during warm up.
jus my 2 cents worth

Im in the states, and im in Michigan. Its the end of winter here right now so my baby, as i call here, is garage bound right now and i have been using anything i can find to put under the choke. But I think i need to get a new choke lever and spring because its pretty worn out. I've got a couple leads but need to research them and see if i can get parts if not im gonna stick with peices of wood and or a key. But i was working on it today have to clean out the carbs. And had it running in the cold and i got it firing with out the choke after it running for 15 mins. So i think shes gonna be a good ride once every little thing is addressed. I have yet to start to dig into the calipers and clean those out but i need to get the right tools. And like i said before the carbs need to be cleaned, the bike kept going to one cylinder when it was idling. So there is work that needs to be done to this bike. But its my first bike and its on hell of a bike too.
