67 T100R: Basic Electrical questions

My speedo has given out so I got to tinkering with the guages.

I have had the bike for about 3 months, looks stock original and the odometer says 7,848 miles. I have never ridden the bike at night so I never noticed that the Tach gauge light didn't work.

Anyway,
I noticed that there was no wire and bulb socket going to the tach from the headlight so I took the headlight cover off and looked inside.

It looks dead stock in there with very, very little wiring and no noticable soldering, clipped wires etc. Also noticed the Amp Gauge on the top of the headlight has no wires attached at all.

**My questions are:
1)Should a 1967 Triumph T100R have a lighted Tach Gauge? I thought maybe the smaller 500cc bike might not come with a lighted Tach.
2)Where do the wires run from that would normally go to the Amp meter on the headlight?

I am a vintage BMW guy and new to the 500cc Triumph.

yup..
should have illumination to tach n speedo..
if you look on the backside of both, you will see where the holes are, where they plug into.. easy enough to get and do.. just follow your manual..
my 69 T100s didn't have them either when i got it..
as for the ammeter, see if it has been bypassed.. if it has, chances are the ammeter is toasted. the bike won't run if meter is toast and not bypassed.

BMW's? i got a couple /2s...
your gonna dig your triumph.. tiz a horse of a different color, compared to beemers. -j

Oh yeah I love the Triumph.....totally different bike and totally different feel. My dad used to flat track race old Triumphs and BSA's and of course I grew up with nothing but Hondas and Yamahas. I was new to the Beemer having only actually owned and worked on the Jap bikes prior. Owned the Beemer for about 5 years now. I guess they all have their personalities. The Triumph definitely has a little more of the "Harley" type thing going for it.......the vibration and all ya' know. The 500cc single Amal carb T100 is such a basic machine I thought it could be possible the a Tach was an option in the day and might not have even come with a light. The hole is there.......just looks like there was never anything in it. I would assume the Ampmeter is by passed as well as it looks original and probably went bad years ago.

I just can't for the life of me find where and how someone removed the Tach light and by passed the Ampmeter by looking in the headlight. It has a Boyer ignition so maybe when that got put in someone did a lot of rewiring and made it look original.

The bike is super clean so its hard to spot any strange mods if you aren't a knowledable Triumph guy.

i shodda mentioned that in your headlight shell, if your connections are original, you will see the connectors can have up to four wires plugged into each.. so the two tails coming from tach n speedo lights, one is pos earth, the other plugs into headlight circut.

as for your ammeter, hard tellin', not knowin'...
but if harness is unmolested, somewhere in there i bet you will find two 'eye'
connectors fastened together. the 'eye' connectors originally fit onto the small bolt on both sides of your ammeter. -j
