tappet blocks!!!!

Hi all,
I have taken the head and barrels off my T140E and was wondering how to take the tappet blocks out of the barrel. I have removed the locating screws and tried knocking them out with a block of wood and hammer but they refuse to budge. Any one have any ideas? I'd like to remove them before i start cleaning and honing the bores.
Dirty Harry.

Harry, there is a tool for this job. It removes and installs, it is used in conjunction with a hammer. I use a copper drift which fits between the tangs to remove the guide blocks. I also have an old guide block with the tangs removed and two 5/16" bolts to line up and tap back into place. Put the cylinders on a good plank of wood for both applications.
Inlet and exhaust are different, oil feed to exhaust. Make sure you replace the 'o' rings with new ones and I used a SMALL amout of silicone to lube and seal the 'o' ring on assembly. The retaining bolts and copper washers are pennies and new ones finish the job off nicely.

'Can't remember what I used? I'm thinking a piece of 3/4 in. copper pipe? Maybe a "socket"? You'll come up with something. Can't agree more with useing new O-rings and a dab of silicone seal to prevent future seapage. Good luck. Have fun! Don't worry, Be Happy!

Really there is no substitute for the proper tool. I have seen people try to drift them out / replace, and break the guiding flange where the followers snugly fit. Over here they are about £17, cheaper than a new tappet block. You don't heat the barrel just whack 'em out.

I had to give them a fair sort of a clout. They have an O ring around them and they seem to be almost an interference fit. In other words they're pretty tight.
