Unhappy clutch woes

I went out to the garage this afternoon with the mistaken idea that I was going to install the new cllutch plates and oil that I had bought for the 68 T-120R to correct the slipping and dragging. Not gonna happen. The first set back came before I even got the cover off. Someone it seems had overtightened the 2 acorn nuts and cracked the cover at both holes. When I got the cover off, I saw that the oil tube that lubes the primary chain and the clip that holds it were missing. When I got the clutch disassembled, the outer basket and center hub have excessive wear and I think the rollers do too as the basket has a lot of wallow, all probably the result of insufficient oiling. Any body got a MAP primary belt kit they aren't going to use?

Good luck with that.

.....Your situation actually isn't as bad as it could be. Trust me when I tell you it could be a lot worse. Here's what I found when I opened up my primary. Only I tool out the wood block that was holding the came chain tight.

For $700 I don't know the belt system is worth it, unless your just high rolling like that. There's more then MAP that makes a belt system. Britsh Cycles sells one too something called QPE or something like that.

WOUAW !!! i knew people could be ...inventive..to say the least!!!
but seriously the clutch problem is easy to cure:buy new parts.the map dry clutch andbelt is a bit expensive but i think it worth it(gonna buy one soon) .anyway you need a new clutch hub.

They all do this. Thos nuts only need about 5 ft/lbs of tourque. This is a common place for the primary to crack. Mine wans't too bad so I just reinforced the area on the inside. Just retighten according to the workshop manual and you should be fine.

Quag, How did you reinforce the cover? Heliarc? Mine is deformed bad enough that the little round cover won't seat flat any more. I thought of making a clamping plate to pull it back in plane and having it welded but if I go with the belt drive, I can save that expense. A new cover is $135 + or - a bit and welding is about $50 with the guy I use so $85 difference & I won't have to spend the time machining it to fit.
