This part number is for the banjo bolt on the rear brake caliper of my 79 T140E. Hopefully someone knows the size of this bolt. 60-7236

Both front and rear Calipers accept Male 3/8" unf - 24 Convex.

Neither, as far as I'm aware, take Banjo Bolts, but rather Hydraulic Pipes.

The front Master Cylinder has a Banjo Bolt associated with it.

I'm a little confused W.

Isn't the Banjo Bolt (60-4183) associated with the Hose to Master Cylinder (Front Brake 60-4176 or 4619)?

As the hydraulic pipe runs 90 deg from the Master Cylinder it uses the Banjo Bolt.

When I look at the parts book I can't find a Banjo Bolt associated with the rear or front caliper.

It appears to have a Hydraulic Pipe again with 3/8" unf 24 convex (60-7007) connected directly to the caliper.

Unlike the front Master Cylinder the rear one seems to skip the Banjo Bolt (both inline, not 90 deg) and has a hose (60-7028) directly screwed into it with a copper washer.

If you're scrapping/upgrading the hose which connects into the Master Cylinder at rear, you'll need an adapter with 3/8" unf convex male to screw into the rear Master Cylinder.

Banjo Bolt 60-7236 is for sale but I can't see it on the parts list?

I trawled over the parts lists for several T140V models.
If you look at page 62 there's no Banjo Bolt to be found associated with the rear caliper?
With respect, you're confused and confusing.

Re-read the OP's first post. Note the model/year he has posted. Then look at the rear brake in the correct corresponding parts book - pages 55/56, part no. 28 ... ;)

You're at least correct that the thread is 3/8"UNF 24 tpi.

Hth.

Depends what he's got/ is doing

My underslung caliper had an S bend metal pipe that went to a rubber OEM hose then to a straight coupler into the cylinder

I later replaced it in the mid 80's to a homemade stainless hose like for like ( for rubber parts)

A few years ago I junked the S pipe and fitted a stainless hose that terminated in a banjo fitting and went straight into the caliper at about 90°
I had cut a front. chrome cover a bit and tapped the mounting caliper bolts so I could bling up the calliper.

Pretty sure that an overslung caliper uses a banjo?

Hi Dave

Totally agree that if it's an after market modification needing a 90 deg hose connection out of the caliper then there's a place for a banjo.

If modifying, I'd go for the following adapters.

or

http://www.venhill.co.uk/Hoses_-_Co..._3-8th_UNF_SINGLE_BANJO_BOLT_-_STAINLESS.html

But if it's standard I trawled over the parts lists for several T140V models.

If you look at page 62 there's no Banjo Bolt to be found associated with the rear caliper??

the overslung caliper was introduced during 79 - some bikes that year were under - others were over - dont know which models or when during that year - my 79 T140D had an overslung and used a banjo bolt - -- knowing how Meriden operated the parts books cant be looked upon to be 100% correct

3/8" UNF 24 tpi it is then.
It's crazy how much suppliers can charge for aledgedly Genuine Triumph Parts.

I've seen ordinary Zinc or Cad plated Banjo bolts sell for the same or more than quality Stainless Steel versions.

But then if you're doing a faithful restoration you'd have to go original.

Reference Top Side vs. Bottom mounted Calipers.

All T140D's had the Top mounted Caliper. Swing arm for this bike was strengthened due to use of 4.85 tire & mag wheel.

All 1979 T140E's VIN number PA24608 or earlier had Bottom mounted Caliper's. The last bikes were part of a Nigerian Army order. PA24608 is supposed to have been built on Dec 14,1979.

All 1979 T140E's VIN number XB24609 thru XB 24790 had top mounted Caliper's These bikes built between December 17 and 22, 1979 were mis-stamped :laughhard XB as the first 1980 bike was PB25001. The 1980 production, I have been told, starts in a new book with a date of November 5.1979.

:hmmthink
I have never seen a parts book for XB24609-24790. If one were needed I would use 99-7102A even though the cover states from engine number XB25383. Note that VIN is a 1980model year built in 1979 :hmmmmm.

I also note the online 99-7102A is marked as a 1979 LATE EDITION :headscratch. I have the one sent to the shop I worked at the original cover stated 1979 1/2.
