That is the third or fourth time I see pix of that bike in the last year!

Get a shop manual.

Get a parts book.

Study.

Get to work, you'll know what to do.

You may eventually need to acquire a few special tools, but probably only if the bike has significant problems. Otherwise a standard tool set and a set of Whitworth sockets and spanners will get you by.

Check your local/state DMV website for insurance, title & registration procedures, etc.

Finding a good mechanic is best done by word of mouth, verified by at least 3 different people that have recent experience dealing with them.
This forum, and others like it, are excellent sources for all of the above.

I've never heard of the rear comical brakes being superior to the older versions. If they were so good you'd think they'd have stuck with them for more than three years (the strike year doesn't count ).

That being said, it doesn't seem like that bad of a deal, even if it is a bit of a bitsa.

You'll always get the purists crying about the wrong wheel or colour around here.

The "custom exhaust" is interesting. Is is stainless? Or is it silver painted? If the latter, it'll look like crap after the first month.

Routine maintenance should be outlined in any manual. Be prepared for a lot of it.

You can buy more bike for less money, and you can buy less bike for more money.

$5K is not too bad if the bike runs well and has a good negotiable title.

Everyone knows it's not original, and it was nit-picked to the bone on the other thread.
