Can anyone tell me the significance of what appear to be punch marks around the fuel intake port of the idle circuit, on this Amal MKI carburetor? It came off my T160 and all three carburetors are the same. I can’t tell if this is something the factory did, or a previous owner. Just curious.
Strange! All three carbs are like this. There must have been a reason. It makes me wonder if there was some long since forgotten magazine article or such, that recommend this to correct some perceived problem - also long since forgotten!:smile2:
No, it looks like someone took a center punch and made punch marks around the perimeter of the hole. All three carbs are slightly different, so they were clearly made by hand.
I have heard of using an automatic center punch to make very tiny punch marks, on a very shiny gasket surface, in order to prevent blowout. I suppose it's possible that's what a PO may have been trying to accomplish here, but I'm not sure why. It's certainly not necessary in this case, and the method was very crude.
