Tried the TON....

Well i got my bike running good, finally got the forks seals redone, front and rear wheel bearings done and tires changed with new speed rated avons.
Figured it was time to try the ton..
Got her up to around 95 and the forks were moving/vibrating back and forth kind of like when it shakes when you are sitting at a red light.. maybe the front tire was a bit out of ballance, thought best to back off for now until i know more.
Was running strong though.

YEEHAW!!!! You can do it!

When I cracked it on my '79, the front end was shaking like you describe. I held it for a couple miles and backed off.

Besides taking the advice of the DAGAD & Eman's posts, check your spokes for tightness/looseness.

The last thing you want is a high speed tank slapper, this from someone who survived one without falling off. BELIEVE me, thoroughly eliminating that wobble is essential to your survival if you should be sweeping through a high speed curve and find some road irregularities.

If you start puckering... grit your teeth and power through it.
If the bike starts puckering... back off and find out why. She's trying to tell you something.

Always a good idea to have your wheels spin balanced after fitting new tires.

If you feel the "need" to do the "ton", do it on a NEW one. Put that old thing out to pasture! Let it enjoy "retirement". I'm sure she's done her share of "tons" in her distant past when she was in "her Prime"! (Just trying to speak-up for the old girl- I know....I've tried to do the "ton" on mine and I thought the world was coming to an end! MUCH easier to do on the Rocket!....and potentially less costly!)

Personally, I'm in TRI-AL's camp.
