Couldn't pass it up.
Had been thinking about my old Catalina scrambler and then saw, in craigslist, an 81 Yammie SR500. Bought it today. Well, it's not a Goldie, but then it was only 200 dollars. Complete non-running bike with title. "Needs some assembly." Has spark. Anybody have any Yamaha XS 650 wheels, forks, and brakes?

Ah, so you bought it.
I was also looking at that one.
At least it went to a good home.
It should be the basis for a very nice cafe racer.

Memories........................... I did my advanced motor cycling course with Derbyshire Police back in 1981 on an XT500. Real fun bike! The SR500 was quite a rare animal here, although they were about, I remember the tank bing a nice candy red???

At one point it may have been a lovely candy red, but now it's rattlecan semigloss black. Clean inside, though.
Yeah, Bob, I didn't have enough projects to make me totally insane. Now I may be topped up. Although, there may be a T160 engine making it's way over if my friend gets feeling better and tracks down the owner there in his village in the hills of Arkansas. Let's see, several Triumph twins, a triple, a Laverda triple, and now a Yammie. Yikes.

Kimo,
An old mate of mine had one and I think that is what got me switched on to the sweet sound/feel of triples, even though the later 120s (like my TBS) where much smoother.
IIRC, there wasnt too many 1200 Jotas built, for what ever reason.
Most of the 1200s were RGAs and SFs etc and the majority of Jotas were 1000s.

Man, you need some serious forearms to handle a Jota.............................. Very few 1200 Jota's here, mostly 1000's and mostly orange. I've got a set of adjustable handle bars for one, does that count????

Counts as far as I'm concerned. This was a metallic red, not orange. I believe it was a detuned version of the Thousand, which was something like 981cc. The Italians are, shall we say, optimistic.
