After Market Switch Gear

Hello & a Merry Christmas to all!!!

After much mucking around with my original switching gear - I'm thinking of upgrading my T140V to latter T140E switch gear.

Has anyone had much to do with after-market switches & controls from companies like Sparx etc...

Cheers,

Tim

I wouldnt recommend it. I have gone the other way on my T140E. The indicator switch in the newer switch cluster isnt very reliable and fails after very little use. Inside the switch there are three contacts, operation of the switch slides a bridge piece between the centre contact and one of the outer contacts. The bridge piece wears out in no time. I have re-wired my bike to use the older style switches and they are far superior in terms of reliability even if they are a bit iffy ergonomically. Note that this is with the original Lucas switchgear, I have not tried the Sparx replacements.

If you do try to swap the switch clusters, you will also need a T140E (or Commando) alloy clutch lever, the steel clutch lever off your bike wont work correctly in the lever bracket of the new switch cluster.

Thanks for the reply Dave... As far as I can make out, the Sparx LHS switch comes complete with a clutch lever!

All I've heard about Sparx is positive.

I've used at least a half-dozen of the EI units with ZERO issues.

I did that, but only because my old switch gear & brake setup was completely shot. In the end replaced both switch clusters, also alloy levers, stainless master cylinder & fittings, and had to wire in a banjo with integral front brake light switch. Worked out in the end around £150 for everything.

I replaced my switch gear with Sparx items (T140E) and have not had a problem. Left side came with a new lever.
