Carb tuning after rebuild.

I have just finished rebuilding my 70 T100C, and the plugs are black. I have a very good idle, but a slight dead spot when revving though the gears, but once the bike gets into the power band it disappears. It's noticeable at a certain RPM, don't know what that is as the tach wasn't working. Carb is a 626, 106 and 170 main jet with the needle in the lowest position, trying to lean it out a tad. Slide is a #4 I believe.
It is also a little hard to start when warmed up. Should I go to a 160 main jet??? Would the slight cutout at the certain rpm be due to the carb or ignition? I'm running points for now as haven't connected the electronic ignition as I wanted to get it running just right before I switched.

I have the same carbs with (I believe) the same jetting. Try the needle in the middle position.

If I go to the middle position it will richen the mixture and that will make the plugs blacker. The needle is in the lowest position now.Perchance could oil be seaping by the rings while they seat in???

Single carb, too. NGK B7ES plugs gapped correctly.

Carb Tuning after Rebuild

Ahobie17,
You mention using a NGK B7ES properly gap, I have a 72 T100R Twin carb and the recommended plug is a NGK B8ES. Bad Information on my part or is there a conventional wisdom I should know about? Bike does run rich, but I am early in the tuning process since I just finished fixing it up. Any recommendations are welcome. Have be lurking on the list but have an 06 Tiger (955I) and the above mentioned T100R. Live outside of Orlando FL. Good list. Thanks for the Hot Tips and Group wisdom

Mine is a T100C single carb, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the 100R uses different cams than the 100C, maybe plugs are different too. Check your workshop manual. I went with the plug MAP Cycles recommended in the catalogue. The NGK 8ES would be hotter or colder than the B7ES, not sure which way.

NGK is opposite from Champ. Higher number is colder in NGKs. B7ES should be about right.
