Mikuni questions

If you all have been following my progress with Lilly (1963 T120 Bonneville) you know she is now running again after 18 years on the center stand. But alas she still has a few "issues". Carbs are way too rich and have some gas running out of settling bowl overflow. The carbs are vm32 Mikuni's.
Is there a rule of thumb way to get carbs adjusted close off the get go, ready to be fine tuned. Say like, snug screw down and then back off one and one half turns or something of that nature.
She is starting on the first kick----- but she loads up when it is revved a little bit.
There are two adjustments on the carb, one small screw and one large thumb type screw.
I can pull carbs and soak in Berrymans again if need be.
Please check progress pics.

No point in trying to tune it if the carbs are flooding. Disassemble the carbs and clean them. Use a q-tip cut in half and chucked into a drill and some brasso or other metal polish to buff up the inside of the float seat. This is good for all carbs.
The thumbscrew is for the idle speed. The small screw is the idle mixture. Mikunis use a fuel bleed idle circuit, so moving the screw out richens and screwing it in leans, the opposite of Amals.

Try MAP cycle in FL. Their paper catalog has exploded views and numbers. He also stocks the parts. I don't know if the online catalog has the same drawing.

Your problem is most likely the choke plunger rubber seats. they dry up and crack, allowing fuel to continue to flow through the choke circuits even with the lever turned "off".

You can buy replacement rubbers anywhere that sells Mikuni parts.
