50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE TRIUMPH BONNEVILLE
50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE TRIUMPH BONNEVILLE
By the Triumph Owners' Motor Cycle Club
Don't you ever wonder how many of the bikes you own were ever built? All makes and years of Triumph. Don't you think it would make you as owner of say a 1956 Speed Twin proudder to say < I own one of say 1000 1956 Speed Twins built that year> and so on for each bike you own.
Surely the Triumph Owners' Motor Cycle Club or the new owners or the holders of the Triumph factory records would be able supply this information. The answer must be out there. Help solve the mistrey.
What do you think?
Would this increase the popularity of vintage and classic Triumph's bikes?
Would this increase the value or the demand for Triumph classics?

In the rarer models, it it generally accepted, but often debated that "X" number were built, and since I have never seen a definitive source for production numbers of all models, I don't know that these things can truly be determined with absolute accuracy.
But, yes, I'd kinda like to know...

Gpz a more or less figure within say 50 or so would also work for starters. consiering the earlier numbers before the DU numbers, If one takes for example year "X" 500 & 650 numbers run from for example 23000 to 30000 there for 7000 bikes manufactured for year "X" devided by the number of models i.e 5 model types = 1400, thus 1400 model "A's" manufactured for that year and 1400 model "B's" and so on.
It may however be more complex with other dating systems. Purhaps this is to be done untill someone comes up with a better answer or the holders of these records gives up the answer. What do you think?

Well guys, it just so happens that the TOMCC are in the process of converting ALL the factory records from 1907 thru 1983 to DVD format as I write this. You may ask, how do I know this? I am the person, asked to oversee it by the club!
Bushy, your logic is good however you need to understand that we are dealing with Triumph here and so it does not follow that all models for each year were produced in the same numbers.
One day when I have some time, I will sit and count the different numbers / models, year by year. I only hope you are still alive when I have finished.
As was said in the Hitchikers guide to the Universe ' the ultimate answer to the ultimate question is.............................. 42?
There are some models already documented by Harry Woolridge in his 'Trophy Bible'. You will see from these that they are a small proportion of the annual production.

Hey Roy, if you just do the 59's I will shut my trap, but I suppose someone will ask for for a 190X & Y & so on and there would be mountians to move or whatever.

Your wish may come true sooner than you think, Bushy. Check out the sticky post at the header "50th Anniversary of the Bonneville". We (TOMCC) are hoping to get 50 Bonnevilles for each year on display at this event and it's also the 60th Anniversary of the Club. The reason for the late season date, August 2009 is to celebrate both events together and not stop you guys overseas with a date clash with the AMA celebrations in 2008 (the start of the 50th season) in America. Hopefully you will be able to come to both events?
Needless to say, ALL bikes on show will have their own individual dating certificate from the factory records. Because the '59 is the first of the 'breed' it shouldn't be too difficult to count them. I think you may be surprised as to how few were actually made that season. Watch this space.
Roy.

I'm affraid it was BSA that finished off Triumph, Quagmire. Possibly 42 in the first batch between making T100's, TR6's, T110's, 3TA's, 5TA's and all the Tiger Cubs that went down the same production line.................
