clutch hard to free up

I have a hard time freeing up the clutch plates before starting my 1976 T140V Bonneville. I have had the primary cover off and adjusted the clutch basket, I have adjusted the push rod stroke , installed a new clutch cable, I run 20-50 castrol oil. The clutch shifts like butter when I,m riding. It doesnt drag, easy to find neutral everything is good except when you go to start the bike. IT is so difficult to free up that I have taken to pulling the clutch lever in and securing it when I park the bike. Just until it cools off, then I can release it,and then there is no problem. Please let me know of any suggestions you might have....THANKS

Sounds like the only thing you haven't tried is new clutch plates.

Try MAP plates.

How about the primary chain tension? It should be 3/8" total up and down in the center of the run with ten pounds of force when cold and with someone of your weight on the bike. Too tight can really foul things up.
