Yeah, that's weird but cool.

A Finnish clothes manufacturer uses the same kind of stuff in their newest high tech motorcycle wear: http://www.indexaward.dk/2007/defaul...minationid=221

It's even won an award

Anyways, there was a story in a magazine where they demonstrated their "molding, impact-hardening protective stuff" by making a bridge (with the stuff) over a person's finger, then whacking on it with a hammer... no harm done. So yeah, that's propably a step in a good direction protection-wise.

...At a price: I checked an german site for prices: trousers 1.000 euro and up, jackets 1.500 euro and up... A bit out of my league, that totals half of what I paid for my Triumph

You can play with something similar. Put a few tablespoons of corn starch in a small dish. Add a little water until you get a thick paste. If you push it around, it hardens up, when you relax it, it goes liquid. I never thought to put it to use.

There used to be a stretchy-guy toy that you could grab his hands and pull apart, he'd stretch out 2 feet, his arms would bend, you could push your thumb into his stomach, etc.

BUT, if you WHACKED him with your fist, or whacked something with him, he would turn rock solid.

Same concept, I think...

corn starch and water? I just told my wife about this, she said I'd have to be stupid to believe it. However when I mentioned that stretcy toy, she said our son had one. He tore it and found out it was corn syrup! Stretch Armstrong? HMMMM

Moral of story: Never dive into a pool full of corn syrup!

Great Stuff

Saw a show on the tube ( maybe Myth Busters ), to walk on water, they made a mix of cornstarch. If it was stood on, they sank, but could actually walk across rapidly.
