Bonnie T120R What does the "R" Mean?

Hi Guys,

Trying to learn all this new Triumph language... I purchased a 68 Bonnie,
DU78532 matching frame and motor. The poor thing is painted purple. The motor is stamped T120R. Also, I am curious about the paint scheme. It appears the fenders, at least the rear fender was painted Triumph red. I found some red inside the rear fender. Where "Rs" painted?

Thanks!

R measn it was the road version. A t120C was the competition version. My TR6R is the single carb road version of the T120R. The 120 means that some crazy people can get the machine up to 120 mph. The T100 your considering is the 500cc version supposedly capable of 100 mph

Congragulations and welcome. To my knowledge, the color scheme for the 68 T120R was Hi-Fi Scarlet with silver. The stripes were white and the fenders steel.
Enjoy your new bike and ride safe.

68 Bonnevilles had stainless fenders. Mudguards. Whatever. Tank would have been metallic red with a silver stripe down the center and a gold pinstripe on either side of the strip.

the r actually means export..ie US not UK model...shorter mufflers, higher bars and smaller tank option and a few other things..some years air cleaners, jetting etc, UK models had painted guards..enough to have a seperate parts catalogue...majority of bikes were "r"..in australia we got both, and a good lot of TR6P for police (saint) which kept the secondhand market going for years
