It has a 120mph chronometric speedo (why have a speedo on a display bike? And why have a 120ph one on a slow bike?), what looks like T140/TR7 UK market handlebars, a tail light but no headlight, and probably various other anomalies will be spotted by the experts.
Or will they? Maybe this is for real, and I've simply never before heard about this strange choice the White Helmets made when deciding on the best bike to leap over jumps etc?
Personally although it may be genuine, it's still a trw and I wouldn't pay that much if Elvis had ridden it.
The matching numbers is interesting as I understood that fleet bikes were messed about and treated like workhorses. A couple of spare engines would be kept and swapped in and out as the need arose. Although the law of averages says that eventually the original engine has to come back ? Like a Broken watch being right twice a year?
..when I was in the display team in the 60's the bikes had solex carbs & the 'show' bikes went back to the factory every year for a rebuild. For training,we used the green, standard army issue bikes & they were VERY abused..Imagine,getting paid to ride every day for 3 months...happy days!!!
To be fair, using the actual bikes that DR's used is a fairer representation of what the services do, and the skill of the riders with their supplied kit.
Unfortunately the SA80 is not really great to look at for rifle drill, and the King's regiment would look daft doing their show without horses
I assume that the army now ride can-ams ? But would we be interested if they did?
They adopted better bikes to improve the glitz and add a bit of showbiz
Back to the trw, I don't think that a trw is worth a great deal ( at least not to me) and the white helmets link might only add £500 max out of interest/ bragging rights
..the TRW's were made between 1950 to 1964.That looks like Sgt Geoff Duke slinging away the sidecar wheel!
