'73 Tiger not running...again... :)

'73 Tiger 750. New Boyer, new coils, new rectifier, new wiring, new battery. Had this work done in July after having some stalling issues... been running great ever since.

Went away for Labor day weekend. Was running fine on Friday. Tried to start the bike on Monday and it wouldn't kick over. Checked the battery and it showed a full charge. Plugged the charger in for a bit anyway. Was starting on 1 kick last week (even when cold)....now requires 10-15 kicks to get engine started. Idles rough and pops and dies promptly when put in gear.

Maybe a stupid question but could water in the carb cause this? The building I live in had people come in and hose down the parking lot over the weekend and I noticed that the area around my parking space (where they normally don't clean) was wet and there was a very small puddle on top of the gearbox under the carb.

Hard to imagine that a hose down would have gotten enough water in BOTH carbs to cause this. I would first suspect plugs. Install some new ones and see what happens.

Yeah...I pretty much figured that water was a long shot but it couldn't hurt to ask. There is only 1 carb (also new) on my Tiger though. I'll check the plugs.

Wups, right. Haven't had my first mug o' java yet. Shoulda seen that, though, it's right up at the top.
Couldn't hurt to drain the floatbowl, I guess. But water in the floatbowl, unless it's a BUNCH, usually affects the midrange and mainjet. The idle circuit pulls from a little higher in the float bowl.
BTW, that's on of the mods I make in the float bowl, I raise the pickup hole level by drilling a second hole about a quarter inch higher. Leaves more room underneath for crud. I also fit a monobloc main jet cap in place of the slotted plug in the bowl. It provides a little sump for water and stuff and being hex is easy to remove and install. They are brass and polish up really nice, too.

No big deal. It's early over there. I'll drain the float bowl, check the plugs and then go from there. Thanks.

There must have been gnomes hard at work in my parking space this morning. I went home for lunch (after posting here) and it started in one kick and is running great. I'm going to have it looked at just in case.

Sometimes I think this thing is possessed.
