I have my 74 T120 tank out for paint with Hutch, I need a donor tank to get the bike started. Also I don't want to put it on till the restoration is finished.
Only one I have found is a 71-72. It does not have the holes for the brace.
Was the brace present ?
I have one of the early non braced tanks -- i will be getting some blind threaded inserts made and brazed in so i can fit a brace - when the tanks are full of fuel the weight makes them flex when in use on the road and without the brace the tank can crack at the front/top just behind the headstock
I have used a few unbraced 71 tanks without any splitting open, however, many of them did split. If the rubber horseshoe support is tight enough, maybe it will not split. Those larger 71 tanks are a little bit scarce now and they are steadily getting rustier.I have 2 USA tanks and two UK tanks to play with.
Thanks all. I bought it. Its in great shape. I want to get the bike started before I start the restoration. Its been sitting a few years. How many, I have no idea.
Best if you do not use any of the tank sealers that always seem to dissolve and clog up the jets.Let it stand with fuel in for some time before painting it.Rust cleaning can be done using about 100 plasterboard screws shook up everyday for a week.Builds muscle at the same time ! I have found that a little rust inside does not cause any carb clogging with just the tap filters fitted.
