stripped thread

What with taking the gas tank in and out it was bound to happen eventually. One of the bolts on the front of the tank has a stripped thread.
I would appreciate any comments,suggestions.
Thanks.

I'm sorry, triumphtimes.I'm not sure I understand 'recoil better than helicoil'
The bolt is an integral part of the tank so I'm not sure it can be replaced unless the old one is cut out and a new one welded in.The problem is that the bolt has a step that may be hard to reproduce.
Thanks for responding.

On my 70 it is threaded at both ends, the bolt that is, and it can be replaced. Perhaps a different year is permanent or welded as you say, but seems rather drastic. Recoil or helicoil if the threads into the tank were stripped. I didn't understand what you were asking either, sorry. Recoil is a thread insert like a helicoil only better quality. Apparently the year of the bike makes a difference.

Unhappy

That's interesting,considering mine is a 70 T120R.The engine number places it (date of manufacture)around Oct 69.
But then,Triumph did change things around in between model years.
Wish my tank had bolts that could be replaced.

The two studs at the front of the tank should be removable. Lock two nuts on the threads and back the stud out. Of course if someone welded it into place your stuck. You can put a dye on it and cut new threads than use the appropriate nut to secure it, or cut it off, drill it out, re tap it, and put in a new stud.

If I remember you have posted pictures in the past.

Hows about one now cause I'm not sure how your bike is set up or what you are saying is stripped.

69 & 70 T120 gas tanks had studs (not bolts) at the front. the rear mounting was a bolt into the frame

Thanks for the response.Maybe there is hope after all.
