Starting issues
Need some advise,folks.
I've had difficulty starting the bike.Strangely, the battery died on me today while I was trying to start the bike, even though I had a full charge to begin with.Do I look for any more shorts that may be causing this?
I cleaned out the float bowls but I keep having to flood the bowl frequently to get the bike started.Once it starts it seems to fade out in a couple of minutes.
What is the right setting for the throttle stop screw before setting the idle?
Can the gas be contaminated with the tank liner I used?
Thanks in advance.

Has it been a while since you've started it? I'm guessing so by the tank liner comment. Have you checked the spark? Points?

Just from reading your post, and knowing nothing about the year, model,or ignition system of your bike,I would say that your charging system is not working, and your battery is faulty.

Cheers!

Here is what I did to have a bike which covered tens of thousands of miles and gave me virtually no trouble.
Get rid of the battery. Remove the stock alternator. Install a Sparx three phase alternator kit. Ride like the wind. Lay the bike up for a decade if you want, and it will start right up, if the fuel is right. Why anybody would deliberately install a battery in their bike is beyond me.........barring a local ordinance.

Tig66208,I rode the bike for a couple of hours last weekend.(Lined the tank a few weeks back due to rust pin holes)The plugs and points are new.It appears that the gas flow is restricted from the main petcock.I'm going to replace the petcocks today.Sometimes it's a process of elimination I guess.
Thanks.

Commando Rdstr,it's a 1970 Bonneville T120R. I tightened the ground wire to the seat yesterday.Worked on the starting issue for a while. The charge seems to be holding up.I'm going to go over all the electrical connections soon.
Thanks.

The ground doesn't go to the seat, only the retaining wire. It isn't electrical, only mechanical.
By all means, get the three phase alternator kit. Cheap insurance.
