Battery Discharge

Help!
I came back from my short ride all smiles, let the engine cool off and then realized the battery is dead.I know I had a good charge before the ride.It only took about half an hour to recharge with the battery tender. This is the second time this happened in the last few days. The battery is fairly new.
Would appreciate any thoughts,suggestions.
Need to ride it down tomorrow to have a local restorer look at it.Any chance I might get stranded?I understand you dont need the battery for ignition on these bikes.
Thanks.

What's your amp meter say when your riding? Mine will be in the negative when I have my headlights on but when I turn them off it will be in the positive. If your not charging the system your amp meter will show all negative.

I'll be sure and check the amp meter tomorrow.
Thanks Quagmire.

Hey there,Quagmire.I think I may have located the problem. The brown-blue wire to the negative terminal was frayed pretty bad,and was barely in contact.I crimped on and soldered a new lead,so hopefully the charging system will be o.k.The fuse seemed fine. The true test will be tomorrow, when I go for a ride.
Thanks again.

note with headlite on break even point of your chagring system system is about 2800RPM

Happy to state that the frayed wire was the source of the problem.Just got back after an hor and a half of riding. The charge seems to be holding up well.Regardig the amp meter,Quagmire,it stayed positive both ways, although with the head lights on it's closer to zero.
Nice feeling, when these problems come up and they are resolved eventually.
Thanks folks.
