Bolt size???????

Anybody know the size of the drain bolt for the primary side of a 67' bonneville? Its the bolthole where you adjust the primary chain....This is pretty much the last part i need to get this engine together. Thanks!

Hi Gray,

Get the proper one from a Triumph parts supplier; it's a little special in that it has a flange on it to help seal the fiber washer that is used. Make sure to get the washer when you get the bolt.

Enjoy the ride when it's finished: Jim

beware the thread as it changes over the years and it's very easy to destroy and almost impossible to repair(not enough metal around to helicoil)
good luck in your search

It's 3/8 BSF. You won't find it in a hardware store, at least not on this planet. The threads changed in 1969. The ones up through 65 had a long extension on them and were harder to access. Get the 66-68 item from a Triumph shop.
DO NOT overtighten, the web is very thin. Use the correct fiber washer and sealer, if necessary to keep the leaks to a minimum.
