Emgo Chrome Headlight Shell. Hole diameters not original.

Heads up for those contemplating the purchase of an Emgo Headlamp Shell.

After cleaning my original headlamp warning lights (red, orange, & green) I thought I'd fit them to the new headlamp shell I bought.

The original Lucas had been left out in the weather and was badly corroded.

Re chroming was going to be two or three times the price of a replacement.

Wouldn't you know it.

The warning lights are a sloppy fit.

Could it be Maybe metric (diameter) creeping in?

Building up the collar with insulation tape doesn't work.
It won't slide in to the shell due to a high spot.

I should have bit the bullet and restored the original shell.

By the way, these holes perfectly accommodate the Emgo warning lights.

Emgo deviated from the original warning light design, the lens being prouder from the chrome bezel.
For this reason they don't appear authentic.

just a thought --- if you can find a washer that is the correct size - that is with an internal diameter the same as the hole in the original shell or at least is a good fit on the warning light - fit the light to the shell then push the washer into place on the inside of the shell - might work - another problem i have experienced is finding a suitable replacement rubber washer that fits the warning light

I had the same problem as you fitting the three lamps into a new bucket. My solution was to use a small dab of silicone sealer around the lamp, insert it into the bucket and secure it using a brake drum retainer clip. The retainer clips where purchased at my local auto parts store. They are small circular spring clips that fit over the wheel studs to hold the brake drum on before the wheels go on. They fit perfectly over the lamps stem and hold tight.

O-rings sometimes do a good job of filling sloppy fits like you are finding with the EMGO shell. You can also cut your own rubber gaskets from an old innertube.

Another source is a hardware store with a good selection of those little cardboard drawers. They offer one with a rubber washer selection.

Yet another source is the plumbing department.

I bought an EMGO headlight bezel because my OEM bezel was dented. It would not fit on my OEM shell. It was a tiny bit undersize. Brought it back and worked the dent out of my OEM bezel. Gives the bike a little character.
