TTbone,

Yikes. Sorry to hear such bad news about your experience with Jon. He's always done right by me, has been a well known and highly respected builder among the AHMRA set for many years.

If he's turning out 'work' like what you've described, I'm forced to agree with your opinion, and will no longer reccomend his services to anyone.

Chasing noises around can be pretty expensive.

A mechanics stethoscope and a good exploded diagram of a motor to use as a reference for suspect parts is much cheaper way to narrow down noises.

Hey Harry,
You might want to give Charlie's British Cycle in Forest City, NC a call for any work needed if you have'nt already found a competant shop. Not sure of the phone #, but I've been up there a few times. An old timer with years of experience and good reputation. As for parts I use MAP in Florida (727)381-1151. Fast, reasonable, and most importantly, very knowledgable. I would be careful when choosing pistons. Know the country of origin before buying. Remember, you get what you pay for, I'd check out MAP's pistons:T120 Big-Bore....CNC Machined 2618 Forged Alloy, Micro Grooved skirts, Forced wristpin oiling,9.5 to 1 up to 11-1 compression ratios, Get one of their catalogs....They've got some nice stuff like custom rods, belt drives, valves, guides etc, including modern clutches that don't drag, slip, or stick. Worth a call. Good Luck!

Tex

Well we finally got to the source of the problem by tearing the motor down.....it was the crankshaft bearing ( timing side) it was a mess!! I have decided to bore out slightly and put in new pistons.

I see wide variety of costs on pistons... Miline out of CA. has their brand for about $50 each and Hepolite's for $110.
Any suggestions and recommendations of parts supplier.

Maybe replace the clutch plates, I'm not sure about this since it only sticks and causes tran to clunk into gear at cold start up. Anybody had this problem and fixed with a cleaning or is replacement necessary?

Thanks for all the input!!

Harry

IMHO it is worthless to try and 'deoil" old clutch plates. Carb cleaner etc etc. Replace with new, you get all the work done you will want to ride the bike. enjoy
