Do I have a problem

So far the Tiger has run flawlessly. Once the engine warmed up I didn't need the choke to start and she idled fine. yesterday I took the bike out for a ride and I got about 1.5 miles down the road. At an intersection the bike stalled and I heard a loud backfire. I kicked it over and nothing. I pulled over, put it in neutral, tickled the carb (which took a while), a couple of kicks with the ignition off, put the choke on and the bike fired up. The next intersection, about a mile, the same thing. Each time when I came up to the intersection and I down shifted thru the gears, when I got into first the bike stalled. This happened a number of times on the ride, even after the bike was warmed up.

When I tickle the carb it takes about a few minutes to spill over.

The bike pulls great and the only thing different I noticed was I had to step hard on the shifter to get the bike to down shift into third.

Anything to worry about?????

Quag,

I'm thinkin' you may have a fuel blockage or fuel tank venting problem - most likely the former.

Check the fuel cap vent -easiest way to do this is:engine stopped, bike not on either stand (you holding it up), give the bike a good shake side to side, and put you ear down near the hole in the fuel cap. If there's a clear vent hole, you'll hear gas escaping from the hole. Don't have a smoke in your mouth when you do this.

The other checks you need to do are a bit more fiddly. Fuel pet****s (taps) off. Disconnect the banjo connector off the bottom of the carb, and place the end in a small container (eg plastic margerine container). Turn primary pet**** on. If you only get a dribble out, you'll need to check the pet**** filters (empty the tank and take them out). Check the filter in the banjo. Take the bowl off and check the needle and seat for sticking.

Oz, thanks for the input. The tank vents very well. The carb is very slow to tickle even with the tank cap off!

Now that you mention it, I wonder if the pet****s are clogged. The guy who did my tank put that Por crap into in and most of it peeled off after the second tank of gas. I tried as best I could to get the rest out but some may still be left in there and is blocking the pet****s. Too bad I just filled the tank after my last ride.

taps clogged

Yep, sounds like the taps are clogged. I remove the screens from my valves for this reason, and I don't want the crud to stay in the tank to cause poultice corrosion or block the fuel flow. Better to have a filter OUTSIDE the tank, which you can observe and clean easily. I also fit monobloc main jet caps to the float bowls, to provide an easily removable sump to keep debris out of the jets.

This is interesting. The site must have a naughty word filter. In my reply I typed out all the letters of the word "pet****" and the site blocked out those four letters that spell the naughty word. Watch it'll do it in this reply.
