Finally got the bike together and started up no problems. While it was idling over i gave the carb mixtures a tweak and it was purring. Got on and went up the road and it started to miss, pulled clutch in and gave it a couple of revs and it cleared, let the clutch out on with the power and it kept missing. Back home i pulled the plugs out and they were black. They were new {NGK B8ES }. Carbies were not flooding. Rested the plugs on the head and kicked over the bike and had spark, but did'nt seem very strong. I have installed a Boyer on it, but am running with 12V coils. The bike is a 1979 T140E which was running a Rita system. Should i change plugs to Champions and coils to 6V and see what happens or does someone know what the problem could be? Awaiting on any info.

I have a similar bike. No need to change any of the stock RITA ignition set up, it is good stuff. The bike has never run 'nicely' on NGKs, I've long since given up trying. Always runs perfectly on Champion N5s.

1. You say you "got the bike together"; was anything in the carbs changed, and why?

2. How are your air filters?

3. Champion N5C plugs, for sure.

Whatever you change, do one thing at a time. Plugs first, then coils.

1979 T140E with Factory electronic ign came with 6Volt coils.

If you have "square" body amals I had a similar problem on a T140D. Problem was bad enrichners.

dayeforty. The Rita amplifier threw in the towel, so i changed to Boyer. Rita gear hard to get + expensive.

GrandPaulZ. The carbs were removed to get at other things and then put back on. Not touched. Air cleaners ok. I will definetly get the Champion plugs.

KADUTZ. Haven't checked what voltage the coils are yet. The carbs are MK2 Amals.

Will let you all know how the plugs go.
Thanks, Dirty Harry.

My 78 T140E did the same thing... replaced carb enricheners... problem solved.

It's the little rubber "pucks" that go bad and stop effectively sealing the little air passage that helps enrichen the mixture.
Best regards,
Dave

Well people, got hold of a couple of Champion N3C'S and what a difference.
The bike went and sounded beautifull. Still got to work on the clutch which stuck up again. Think i'll buy some Norman Hyde clutch plates.
Thanks all for your input. It is much appreciated.
