Hello All...

I just got my Tiger back from the shop. My mechanic is out of town so I haven't been able to talk to him but I've been having stalling issues.

I had the following work done...top-end rebuild, new carb, sump plate replacement basic servicing (valve adjust, oil change, plugs, etc.).

Now that I have it back from the shop I have a new problem I didn't have before. Bike idles just fine when in neutral but when I'm downshifting it cuts out. For example if I let off the throttle, squeeze the clutch and downshift from 4th to 3rd it kills the engine before I even let the clutch back out. If I keep the throttle open while I squeeze the clutch and downshift the engine keeps running.

One thing I'm thinking is maybe the clutch isn't disengaging all the way and is causing the engine to stall when the rpms go down. Any other ideas?

Sounds like float level issues...

Thanks for the response. Had originally thought about the carb but dismissed it because the idle is so perfect. I'll check it out...

Hi,
had a similar experience lately.
Same bike btw.
New AMAL-930 carb (Needle all the way up, 106 jet, 260 Main)

The bike ran ok however the adjustment of the mixture in low and midrange is either too lean or too rich.
No stalling when fitted with the 106 jet

So I put in a 107 jet, checked the mixture, was happy and took it out for a testride.
The bike stalls when still cold while downshifting.
No probs when warm/hot.

Of course I checked the float but there“s nothing to adjust cause it`s plastic....

I`m going back to the 106 jet and I guess I`ll be ok (and saving gas aswell)

The float is adjusted by raising or lowering the brass insert float needle seat. It's a big hassle, but sometimes necessary.

Well seems like the problem may be electrical or maybe it's just a coincidence. My battery went completely dead this afternoon accompanied by lots of sputtering, backfiring and popping. Of course I had to be stopped in front of a crowded bustop in the middle of town with lots of people watching me when it happened. At least I was local and not half way up the coast. I had a full charge about a week ago. Today the meter shows 0.1 volts. I'm wondering if my stalling when shifting was a result of the alternator not putting out enough power at lower RPMs to charge the battery and keep the engine running....or maybe it's just the carb...or both.
