I have not tried any searches of my own, but since I was here I thought I'd ask. My friend needs a manual for a sixties W1 Kaw (the BSA copy). Anyone know a good site?
That bike looks like a preunit BSA. When I rode into his driveway I thought he had bought a Triumph.

Post some pictures up if you can. My first bike was a 1968 Kawasaki 650. Had it about a year before I bought my 71 Bonnie, brand new off the showroom floor.

Sorry, I can't post pictures. I found some web sites that have good pictures of them. I didn't bother to note te web site adress. But I googled for W1 Kawasaki and some good stuff came up. None of them, however had a 'how to fix' link. My friend did find an original owners manual. That is cool, but did not go into the deep for motor repair, wiring, etc. I haven't heard it run yet, but he claims it ran before winter hit. You no how thay goes. He bought a newKaw 650 W1 a few years back but ended up selling it. It was so good a retro that the rear fender cracked!

Hi Red59;
your first post sent me searching the www for info on the W1 and W650.
although it looks like a blatant rip-off back in the 60's with the W1 series, when Kawa tried to tap the Retro demand in Japan with the W650 I give them credit.
(blatant rip-offs aren't that uncommon anyways - re: BMW / Ural / China-brand-whatever-its-called)

wasn't it said that "Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery"? I find the drive shaft to overhead cam quite elegant.

I'd like to ride one - and if the seat height works for my girl, get her on one too.

This is a good website with links.
Ian Chadwick seems to have a pretty deep knowledge base of the Brit bikes as well.

good luck on yer quest.
