OK, so I just got my 1965 BSA A65 engine, and have been thinking of what kind of bike I want to build around my new mill. Will a BSA 650 fit in a rigid frame set-up to accept a Triumph 650, without moving the motor mounts or any other mods? :???:

I think the OIF frames will take the engine using different mounting plates; not sure, though...

No frame for a Triumph will take an A65 engine. All the mounting positions are different.
The OIF BSA and Triumph shared most cycle parts, but the frames were make-specific.

Hi,

yes you could do it (as with most things) but would require some frame reconfiguration in the mounts and getting the gearbox sprocket lined up with the rear..
the question is why ? and what are you trying to achieve ... If you are looking at a retro then i would seriously look at putting the A65 into and A65 frame .. sell it for some reasonable amount and buy yourself an old A10/7 or 6T or something if you want to do a retro thing ... probably work out cheaper ...

Doesn't the A65 vibrate enough for you without the added banging around from a rigid frame

I must say that I agree with Snibor on this. Best thing to do is put the engine in an A65 frame. Best of best is if you can find an A65 dry frame.
650 BSA's had a bad reputation (in this neck o' the woods, anyhow) for developing stress cracks (ie. leaks) in the bottom part of the frame's backbone/reservoir.
Noone was ever quite sure whether this was caused by the A65's vibration, quality control issues at BSA, or if it was because the rear engine lug was right there, welded to the backbone/reservoir itself whereas Triumph had engine plates which were spaced on either side of the frame.
In any event, Beeza that is a Beeza will probably bring you much greater satisfaction than a Beeza masquerading as a Triumph.
If you can get there, there is a big Britbike meet at Butler's Orchard, near Germantown, Maryland on May 20th. You might find what you need there.
