I have '70 T100C and I want to upgrade the headlight... what are my options... I'm planning on replacing the alternator and rectifier with a sparx unit as I'm popping bulbs...

ANY advice is helpful!!

Thanks...

p.s. I'm ok doing the work myself obviously (or I would've bought something else )

Sparx three phase alterntor, no battery (capacitor instead), Candlepower or other 5.75" Conversion glass (NOT HD conversion glass, it has the index notch in the wrong place.) with H4 bulb. You will have waaaayyyy more power than you will ever need, no battery to screw around with, and your life will be much simpler. The bike can be stored indefinitely and you won't have to mess with the battery to fire it up. I have run this set up for years and would never run anything else. It also frees up a lot of space under the seat when you remove the battery and batt. box. Less weight, too.

Thank you! I've read some of your other posts. You seem to have your S*&t down.

Where do I find one of these headlights? and Is Candlepower a brand?

I'll do some searching on my own.... if I have to fix the ***** bike, I had better be able to find a headlight on my own

Thanks again!

Aloha Kawika. (David in Hawaiian)

Candlepower is a brand name. I got some from Flanders in Pasadena, CA. some years ago. There will be one for HD and one for "other" misc. and that is the one you need, if you have a Lucas or non-HD small headlight. You may also be able to get sealed beams from NAPA or other auto parts stores, although the replaceable bulb will save you money and hassle in the long run. The Sparx three phase kit supplies a regulator/rectifier that I find questionable in durability. The Tympanium three phase unit is larger but very durable. This is the one I have used for years. It is negative ground, but that should cause no real problems. The Sparx unit can be wired either way.

ok.... I'll go hunting.. now, if I use the Tympanium unit, do I have to run the positive to the ground, and the negative to the "wire" and keep it insulated from the frame?

I was born in Hilo, (hippy parents), my dad is named David... hence, my middle name actually.... Kawika

I have the original bulb in it now.... so this replacement unit just goes in the bulb housing like an oem bulb?

Thanks!

EDIT: I am finding these replacement kits.... now I just have to track down this Timpany drum or what not.....
