I want to add turn signals to a bike that's never had a set.

Finding the right signals for the bike is the easy part.

What I'm looking for some help with would be on locating a turn signal switch that can be mounted to the bars and what other electrical parts would need to go into this project.

Obviously I'd need to wire in a flasher unit and probably a relay of some type.

I'm not a bad wrench but electrics aren't my thing.

Any thoughts, guidance, etc... are welcome.

Guys,

The LHS Handlebar switch can be had for around $75US - # 30447A from www.britishspares.com.

See the basic wiring diagram in the "Demystifying Triumph Electrics" paper in the downloads section of TriumphRat.net. You will need a flasher unit (35048 from BS @ $19), but a relay is not necessary. Flasher units for these bikes are usually mounted on a spring mount, so as to reduce the affect of vibrations on the flasher (60-3614 - $2 from BS).

The warning lamp is optional - should be around 3W globe if used.

Hope this helps

Thanks!

I went to their website and did a search on those numbers. Only problem is that there is no picture of the items.

I see the switch is for a '75-'78 T140-160. Would you know if that is a free standing switch as opposed to one built into a switch housing/grip like most modern bikes? I'd like a free standing (chrome) housing.

Triumph never made a combination horn/dipper/turn signal switch similar to the chrome horn/dipper switch units mounted on older models did they?

Seeker,

I'm a little confused with what you seek, but I'll seek to help. The switch I pointed to is the combo High-Low/ Horn/Indicator switch in switch housing that clamps onto the handlebar as a sperate unit (No handgrip attachment whatsoever), and associated wires to the headlanp shell.

I can take a picture of one tonight and pos6t it if you like.

I don't know if this site will help with your switch gear decision?

Perfect! I couldn't tell that from just the text.

Is that part number just apply to British Spares or is that a Triumph/BSA/Norton part number?

I ask because I'm in the USA and may be able to locate the same switch from a US supplier now that I know what to look for.

I think that part number is BS only, but it could also be a Lucas number. I'm at work, so no reference material with me.
It looks pretty much the same as the SPX007 on the Sparx site -
Thanks Geoff.

Seeker,
The Triumph p/n is 19-1965.

30447 is the Lucas number.
30447A is a BS number for a pattern switch.

Excellent....thanks for taking the time fellows!

Since this new switch will take the place of my old dipper/horn switch, all I need to do is identify the existing wiring so I can wire in the new one without the horn button dipping the headlamp, etc.....
