My 8 bolt head still runs ok with the typical cracks in it.
Is a rebuild on a 8 bolt head possible without the head cracking?
Does anyone have experience with theses old heads?

Just about ANY head can be rebuilt to working condition, but there is a point at which the cost of the parts & labor exceeds replacement cost.

GP O.K. but it will probably recrack, just because of its design, would,t you think? It runs good cracked though, thats what bothers me. If it ran like ***** I wouldn't have to search for the answer. I don't want valve seats falling out.
And those valve guides! Are they OK with todays fuel? Maybe superior?

I don't have much experience with the 8-bolt heads, so maybe I'm not the one to be discussing this with. However, I believe the 9-bolt heads can be bolted right up; anyone try this?

ithink you can your head redone by the cylinder head shop in england(not cheap but very nice job!!!some say that the 8 bolts head have a better combustion chamber shape(steve wilson in his book about triumph)
you have a choice to make:head redone or buy another head with boxes and cylinder ....
make your count.

The valve seat and unleaded gas question first came up when leaded gas started being replaced by unleaded. I don't know of any valve guide issue. The seats are ok with unleaded. It was recommended that with newly cut seats that you run some lead additive for a few tankfuls of gas just to get a coating of lead deposited on the seats.

There are a couple of very informative mailing lists for old British bikes. One is the Brit-Iron list, subscribed to by owners of all marques of British bikes, parts vendors, mechanics, and some very knowledgable enthusiasts.

Since I have 2 Nortons I also subscribe to the NOC list (Norton Owners Club) and the INOA list (International Norton Owners Association).

Check them out if you haven't already.
