When riding I notice that fuel is weeping from the fuel cap ( around the bottom ) After I had replaced the cork seal under the cap , but it still weeps. Spoke to British Imports and he said would be better getting another cap. Sounds like it should be able to be fixed. Any ideas....and if I have to get another cap is there a site I can buy one from on the net.

Any help and views appreciated

Hi Greg,
Relacing the cork should of stopped the leak, check the top of the tank where the cap fits, ensure there is no damage.
Also how did you fit the cork to the cap?

If you want to purchase a new cap try British spares in New Zealand. Email sales@britishspares.com

jawa150,
Your fuel cap may not be the problem. I have found the weeping comes from the seam where the filler neck is crimped to the tank .Some people say to use a bead of epoxy to repair this.I have found the only sure fix is to clean the paint from from the bottom of the neck and solder the seam that will gife a permanent repair. This can be done with a soldering gun and a low temp electrical solder and will not damage the paint around the filler neck .

Caps are fairly reasonable, still being made by Ceandess, the original supplier in England, or from Taiwan, even cheaper. Always good to have a spare.

I've heard about the push-fit filler necks leaking as well. Don Hutchinson says to solder 'em up.

Good advice.
