I recently spotted a chopped Trimph. The owner claims its a (was)59 Trophy. The only thing Triumph on it is the motor and maybe a stretched frame. Anywasy the numbers on the mototer is 47T5...... Did they ever have numbers like that?

its possible theyre factory replacement cases that have been restamped , usually a dealer would have used the correct numbering system though..however that is not the case ...im leaning to believe that the cases you have are 1947 5t cases....its hard to say without seeing what you have ,....can you see a part number on the base of your cylinders? e3332 would be 59 650/ e2257 would be a 47 5t/t100 ....let me know what part numbers you can find ...
good luck

Take a look at the area just under the timing cover....is there a little crescent shaped bulge? If no, then it's a pre 50 case, with the smaller bearing. If a bulge presents itself, it's the later big bearing case, MS 11 brg, like the unit 650s, and so could be a 59.
