OK, so I can't find a K70 tire to put on the back of the Bonnie. I call 3 different dealers and they all recommend this D404 Dunlop as a replacement.....yeah, right! So I gets one. WRONG! It's a "tubeless" tire (no big deal until you go to mount it)! So I fight with this thing for a complete afternoon in the garage with tire irons flying everywhichway in 80' weather & 80% humidity. I get it half on and realize the other half just ain't going on by ME! So I take it to the local Yamaha dealer who finishes the job for $10. I get it home and the fool thing is all "crunched-up" over each of the two "tire holds"! Back to the tire irons to flip the tire bead between the "holds" & the rim. Another day shot! Finally on. The tire looks like a sport bike tire and handles like krap! So where the heck do I get the "proper" rear tire for this thing. A link supplied on this site suggested a place that's supposed to carry K70's but you can't order them! What gives??? So this 15 minute job had my Ride down for a week ! Anybody else have this kind of luck? I guess so. Just read all the recent posts! You're Not Alone !!!

OK, thanks to Bonnevillian, Cycle Spot doesn't work, but Ron Ayers apparently does- so I just tried ordering some K70's. We'll C what happens. Thanks

I've been using Dunlop K70s made in Japan for about 5 years, there are several suppliers for under $100 including shipping.

Dunlop K70's are available from Dennis Kirk, Shade Tree and I'm pretty sure Competition Accessories. They are also available from British Cycle Supply, British Only and Waldridge. It surprises me that you seem to be having a problem locating one. In a pinch, you could order a Cheng Shin K70 copy from JC Whitney, it's a harder compound and doesn't handle quite the same, but it's close and looks right.

TIRE MOUNTING TIP: Lay new tires out in the hot sun for about an hour or two before you mount them, it helps to make them pliable. If its cold outside, place the tire right next to the heater for a while or place a hair dryer on high heat blowing inside the tire to warm the tire up. Warm tires mount easier.

I use the Cheng Shing as well. But I do not ride it hard, although they are rated well within specs. They also have the 'vintage thread patterns.
My take on tires anymore is>Take the whell off, tire and tube.. clean it good and tke it to a cycle shop. I have wasted too many tubes.
Here is a good "bummer" I was in Strawberry Fields in 68 and had a flat. I pushed the honda to a gas station and proceede to fix it myself. To make a freaked out story short, I ended up putting the tube in the tire bent over itself. Like U shape. I thought I was imagining things when the air I was putting in it was only inflafing 1/2 of the tire. I continued to fill the tire even though 1/2 of the tire wasn't inflating and it BLEW and sent colorfull dust all over, not to mention the blast alone sounded like a shot gun. The attendant let me keep it there for a couple days untill I could 'come down' with a new tube.

Hey All, Thanks 4 all the in-put. I did manage to order those K70's from Ron Ayer. In the meantime my FREE Dennis Kirk catalogue showed up in today's mail in which were the K70's & Cheng Shins (Higher cost than R.A) So I really DON'T KNOW what the "problem" was from the 3 suppliers I asked originally ??? So now what the **** do I do with this piece of Krap D404 that I busted a nut trying to get mounted??? Thanks 4 the "mounting" tips. Will try 2 remember, but getting "old". Now where'd I put that motorcycle? :???:

if you understand why Jack Daniels cost more than Old Horse Pea the you will understand why the K-70's cost more than the Ching Sing's.
