I started the bike for the first time and I noticed I have an exhaust leak coming from the right dise of the balance pipe. I tightened the clamp as tight as I could, but smoke and a small amount black liquid comes out. The engine timed OK and the carb slide is set so the engine ticks over at 1000 rpm. So I have two questions:

1) What can I do about the leaky balance pipe. I'll try and unscrewing the clamp and moving the pipe to the right side and reclamping it. Anything else I can do?

2)When I messed around with my mixture screw I didn't notice anything with the engine. Should I have? I have the screw set to 2 1/2 turns out.

1.Yes... buy a small exhaust pipe expander.

I have a small and a large from J.C Whitney.

2. When you turn your mixture screw out, you should turn it until your motor's RPM's start to rise, Once you get to this point, count how many turns out it is. If it is more than 2 turns out, you need to lower the needle one clip position and start over.

Quag,
Loosen the clamps, slide 'em to the middle of the balance pipe. Using some high-temp silicon, fill the slots in the ends of the balance pipe. Slide the clamps back over, wipe off any excess goo. Leave to cure for 24 hours.

Bonnavillian, that's a pretty cool tool. Not bad for 12 bucks.

Thanks for the input guys.

KADUTZ....

When you reply,

Click the URL button below and it asks for the site address, then it will ask for the text you want displayed. Done!

The small one was hard to find so I found one at Whitney... Just about any parts store has the larger one for auto exhausts.

There is actually alot to tuning a carb .... normally I am used to having a pilot jet and that would have to be changed to a lower value in the above senerio but since Amal decided you don't need to adjust this and capped it off for the intended purpose, the needle adjustment is all you have to fine tune a rich condition besides slide cut (read expensive) and mixture screw which determines how far off your carb is to begin with. BREATH! The main doesn't come into play until 1/2 to full throttle....

If that isn't a run on... I don't know what is! :-D

Just a follow up on the exhaust, I tried OzBloke's way and it worked great. Thanks Oz that was easy.
