I'm not sure who asked for this but here is a video of setting the Lucas 6CA points. It's a 100mb download so be patient.

hi quagmire,
That's great but on older models a cam ring in side the magneto was used with one set of points, if one adjusts the points and then rotates 180 degrees and checks the points the point gap differs. What could the remedy to this be?

Hi Bushybester,
I found the best way to set points on a mag is to get the gap even on both sides of the cam-ring if you get say 16 thou on one side and ten on the other just adjust the points to give you 13 thou on both sides. I find this works well.
You could always ditch the mag and get one of those new fangled electonic things that look like a mag the only thing is they require a battery to work.

Hi TripleGuy,

That"s what I have done & seems ok not really knowing the bike well enough. Maybe I'm being to precise
My main problem is a color chart for the 59 Bonneville.
thanks.

Hi,
By colour chart do you mean the original colour scheme if so the 1959 T120 is pearl grey tank top and mudguards. Tangerine tank lower and mudguard stripes. Black frame, forks, oil tank and battery box.
It also had a two tone seat cover black sides grey top.

Hi Tripleguy.
By color chart/samples I mean the original colors the bike came out in as briefly described by yourself. (THE COLORS of PEARL GREY & TANGERINE) I have never seen these colors nor has anybody else as there are only 3- 59 Bonneville's in SA that I know of & not one is painted correctly so how do I describe these color to the painter?

So what if I was color blind? Surely there must be a color chart as in all paint shops with something similar to these color's, or one of the painters might know using XXX paint add 3 % black & say 2.5 % green is the mix for pearl grey
In the 15 year I have been rebuilding the bike this has been the most frustrating. The 1959 bonne had 3 different versions.
thanks
BB

I have a picture of the bike on a book cover. I'll take a picture of it tonight and post it.

There is a guy over here named Don Hutchinson who has all the colors for every triumph known. I don't think he can send paint overseas so he may tell you the paint codes or someone in SA who has them. His web site is www.triumphman.com.

Hi Bushybester,
If you can get hold of a copy of "Great British MotorCycles of the Sixties" by Bob Currie on page 66-67 there's a great picture of a T120 in the correct colours.
You can even see the centre stripe on the front mudguard and it's fitted with the correct twin mono-block carbs.

Bushy, sorry about this but I forgot to post the pics last night. I'll write myself a note and staple it too my forehead so I remember tonight.
