Another dumb question-

I just replaced the 6ca points with 10ca. Do I have to do the timing to get everything right after i put them in? This is my first time doing this and i want to keep it as simple as possible.

Thanks

i think that...yes.triumph twin are very sensible to accurate timing and you have to check it or have it done with a strobe light(much more accuracy and it pays!!)

Fisher,

pe is right, anytime you do anything (and I mean anything) to the points, you should check the timing for both cylinders.

Also, (I think) the 6ca points had the condensors mounted on the points plate, whereas the 10ca set does not. You may have to mount new condensors up near the coils. Using points, you must have condensors fitted for both coils, otherwise spark will be weak and points will pit and burn out.

Pete

What is the best way to set timing without a stroboscope? My bike has the flywheel port but it isnt very clear in the manual. Do I need to get a degree gauge?

I had the bike running well before the old points plate broke. Its killing me.
