I was just reading thread about Triumph factory in Thailand for frames and possibly complete bikes. Kinda like buying an English made in India. Harley mostly uses foreign components; starter motors, looms, rims, carbs, forks, shocks, etc.. My question is, what bits of my '79 T140 come from outside the UK.? Anyone know? :???:

okie I don't know about your 79
I do know the NOS TR5 turn signal switch I used on my 70 was made in Japan
I do know the battery's used in 75 Norton Estarts were yuasa with Norton part numbers on them
I do know Lucas had parts made all over the world
as far as the rest I don't know.
no way I'm buying a Hinckley so I don't care where they are made

My '79 T140D has Veglia clocks that say "Made in France" on them. Carbs are Amal MkII's, say "Made in Spain" on them. The Lester cast wheels were made in the US. There are other non-British parts on it (I think the speedo-drive), but can't remember which or from where. Never noticed anything from Thailand.
I had some lit. on my '96 Sprint T-3 when I bought it (Which has a lot of electrical stuff from Japan, that mentioned the frame being manufactured in Wales.
I was in the Yammy-haw shop getting a tyre mounted one day, and noticed that all of the fancy little chrome doo-dads and gee-gaws were made in the US. On another day, I was waiting for a friend in the Harley shop and noticed that all of the "Screaming Eagle" dress-up parts were made in Singapore, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Phillipines, the Solomon Islands, anywhere but the US.

Well I guess its hard to say, my rims are marked, Made in England and my clocks are Smiths marked, Made in UK. See yours are Veglia and mine are Smith's, same year bikes. Globalization?

Royal-Enfield's

A recent article in Cycle World about the Royal-Enfield's Which are made in India. They look great and the qualilty has come way up
from a few years ago....

There's a thread on the T300 section of the forum asking the same question for the early Hinkley models, parts so far have included mirrors (the same as Kawasaki) and various electrical parts. However I'm with KADUTZ I'll never buy a "modern" Hinkley.
(I was in the shop last week and there is nothing there I would buy)

I thought the same until I saw several in "the flesh" at the NEC bike show last year. When you look at the small details they still have a long way to go! I was considering one but once I saw them at the show I decided to go out and buy a Bonneville in a box

I just sold my 49 TR5 Generator engine Trophy and still have a couple of Vincents, a 46 AJS 18, and a 37 Norton 16. My everyday ride is a 1200 Trophy which is hard to fault save the Corbin and the bar length. Most of the bike is European; a few bits are oriental. The build quality is very good. My point is old iron is fun and fine and gives me a hard on, but I have replaced every vintage British POS electrical and cycle part with other parts to keep them running. Nostalgia is fine if you have the money and the patience.

I own one. They've been building them at the same factory for close
to 60 years now. Even though you could mix a can of paint set on
the seat it starts in 2 kicks cold and 1 kick warm. love it.
