I like Interstate for customer bikes, Wal Mart for mine.

I ordered one from http://batteryjack.com But they are back ordered til the end of the month. It is a AGM battery and sealed. It is supposed to be much better than a traditional battery.

Here is the description:
Sealed lead Acid Batteries, No filling, Maintenece Free. Used in many Motorcycle, Snow Mobile , ATV and Watercraft Applications. L = 5.39 x W = 3.03 H = 5.35, terminals as pictured (Positive - L, Negative - R). Batteries are shipped shipped charged and ready to install. 12 Month Warranty. Our sealed motorcycle batteries feature Absorbed Glass Mat technology (AGM for short). This design dramatically improves a battery's performance in the following areas: A) True sealed and maintenance-free design, you'll never have to check or add electrolyte again, unlike conventional batteries which require periodic fluid checks. B) Liquid-free AGM design, will not leak or corrode on expensive paint and chrome, and also eliminates corrosion around the battery terminals. C) AGM batteries have less internal resistance which allows them to produce more discharge current (cold cranking amperage) vs. comparable conventional "wet" batteries,and AGM batteries also recharge faster D) Better resistance to both heat and vibration, a major cause of failure in conventional motorcycle batteries E) Much slower self-discharge rate, (3% vs.15% per month) means longer periods between battery recharging over periods of non-use, like winter months or vacations. Our sealed motorcycle batteries feature Absorbed Glass Mat technology (AGM for short). This design dramatically improves a battery's performance in the following areas: If you are not sure which battery is right for you - just give usa call at 888-30-POWER. Our service reps can make sure you get the exact battery for your requirement.
Price: $ 21.55

$27.50 shipped.

Keep in mind the stock size battery for my 77 Bonnie is
L = 5.31 x W = 3.00 H = 5.50
L = 5.39 x W = 3.03 H = 5.35 for this one (should work)

We will see....

tnsen,

I concur with Bonnevillian. AGM Sealed is the way to go. Much less hassle and problems. Went this way myself two years ago, after ongoing issues with standard battery not holding charge. Never had a single problem since- even with Halogen headlight and Boyer fitted.

use a 12N9-4B1
orig Lucas battery was an 8amp hour battery this is a 9 amp hour battery Is more than good enough and can be obtained most any where. I always use the least expensive one I can find. keep your RPM above 2700 and output will
match electrical usage.

Nope, Gelcells are of different technology, and use a paste as the electrolyte instead of acid. They require current limiting circuitry in the charging system. not appropriate for this application.

Flash,

Gel Cells are more commonly used in "deep cycle" applications such as solar power systems, UPS's (Uninteruptable Power Supplies), where big discharge current is required, but long and slow low-current charging is avaliable. Because of the special charging current needs, they are not much good for an alternator charge situation, as large charging current will degrade the battery life significantly.

AGM batteries are basically replacing Gel Cells in most applications.

Pete
