Installed some new Amals and cables. When bike starts up it idles very high. I have increased the slack in the cables to allow the sliders to be in a sitting position. However it still idles high. I think they are not sitting completely down. I don't remember the RPMs but I would guess around 3-4k.

I have tried using my old cables and same thing happens. Old and new cables are same size.

I don't have a manual for the carbs so its a little difficult to troubleshoot. I am assuming there is some fine tuning that needs to take place.

Any Ideas? Thanks.

Where are your air screw sitting at? What is the main, pilot and needle and position sitting at?

You didn't over torque the carbs when mounting did ya?

All I can tell you is that the clip is in the middle position on the needle. No idea on the other stuff.

I don't believe I over tightened it.

If your air screw is out too far then it is mimicing a air leak.

Start at 1.5 turns out....

Yeah, I have seen this site before but nothing talks about troubleshooting high idle except the cables.

Stock jetting on a 77 Bonnie is:

You bought 30mm Amals right?

190 Main
#3 slide
Needle should be in the middle and be a 106

I will have to verify those numbers.

One of the things I am noticing is that the slide is not sitting at the lowest position. I think that is the real issue.

One more thing. I am running Norton pipes. I am just trying to get the idle down so I can fine tune.
