Guys, I've been fiddling with my '79 Bonnie Special since Nov. last year. Typical fix one thing find another...

I've got everything in order, but I need new axles, bearings, and spacers for the front and rear wheels. Also need the cast plate (bearing cover) that goes between my front brake rotor and the cast wheel.

Tried ordering the stuff from British Parts, Chicago but they kept sending me the wrong things. I didn't give them part numbers (my bad), but I talked to a guy that seemed to know exactly what I needed. Apparently he wasn't ordering the stuff. 2 months later, they still owe me $272 worth of parts and my bike still isn't ridable!

Anyone have a good source for getting these parts? I also need a speedo drive, but I can get that several places. I never thought I'd have any trouble pulling the wheels off to get some new tires, but I can't get it back together! Actually had to cut the rear axle to get it out.

If it'll roll, it'll ride...I think !

See first thread about parts. Chicago I can't help you, but I'm sure you'll get the answers you need here.

You probably know this, but the 1979 T140D Special has a different front axle arrangement than a standard 1979 Bonnie T140E.

Also one of the lower fork members has the drain plug higher on one side to allow for the axle nut.

You're in deep Doo-Doo! First off, get yourself a "parts Catalogue" so you have the EXACT part number you need for the part you're looking for. You can get this from British Only in Michigan. While at it, order your other parts from them! They're legit! On-line or toll-free.
1-800-British Only. Little "pricey" but "correct" & quick! Used parts also available. Good luck. Happy hunting.

Luke from what I've read about the outfit in Chicago,.....your screwed. Assume you threw away $272 and use another place. good luck getting your money back. If I were you, I would call them and ask them to credit your credit card over the phone while you wait, better yet if you used a credit card call your credit card company and ask for the charges to be removed. Complain that they took your money and never sent you the parts. I would also tell the chicago outfit that your going to call the Illinois better business bureau and file a complaint. This might get them annoyed enough to get you you off their back.

Good luck

British only is phasing out thier phone order system as of last week. The owners are semi-retiring and will focus only on on-line orders. They will also be selling all thier inventory on e-bay and slowly phasing out a 30 year operation.

They WILL be missed.

Thanks for all the tips. I've already been in touch with British Only... found out they aren't answering the phone anymore. I sent them and e-mail and ordered the ol' parts book.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the Chicago parts place... and my refund.

I'm moving to Charlotte, NC on Saturday, so I probably won't get to the bike for a while now... we'll see. I'll still try to get my parts, but who knows when I'll be back in town to install them!
