Is this a carburator problem? My TR6R will not idle back down very fast after letting off the throttle. When shifting through the gears it sounds like I'm not even letting off the throttle. The problem is not consistant and seems to be worse after the bike is hot. I have cleaned the the carb and replaced all the seals and gaskets. There are no vacuum leaks. Polished the slide, nothing is binding and nothing warped. The cable is loose, not binding anywhere. I have probably run a pint of oil through the cable. I keep thinking it's something simple that I am over looking. Any ideas?

Not being consistent makes me think their might be something amiss in the throttle cable casing or cable that you can't see. Maybe the throttle springs are weak as well. With the motor off I'd snap the throttle shut a lot of times and make sure I could hear the slides hitting the idle screws. It usually tough, as you know to find an intermittent problem. Best of luck :???:

You went through the carb, right? Did you over tighten it a bit when you put it back on? Loosen the nuts a bit and see if that helps. Make sure that you used a locking type nut as they are not supposed to be drawn up tight. Check the slide's movement in the "sleeve" of the carb, paying attention to the last part of the drop down, the bore may be warped just a bit, and check the guide on the side of the slide and sleeve bore to be sure there's no burrs, etc. Lastly (or firstly) check, or replace the throttle cable; I had one bread a single strand inside of it and it would hang up every now and then. Also, check that the air slide (choke) is also moving freely and not binding the slide in any way; it is opening all the way, isn't it??

Hope this helps: Jim

The older carbs will leak around the carb slide bore and produce a fast idle.

Re-bore the carb bodies & new slides is the cure.

Triton or Lunds are good outfits for the job.

Thanks everyone for the help and ideas.

GrandPaulZ I had thought about that, but it idles very smooth at 900 rpm. It just takes a long time for the rpm to drop back to idle.

jimballard mentioned the air slide (choke). That is one thing I had not checked and will do today.

i have got exactly the same problem(as you describe it there up)
the slide dont go down quickly enough!chage your spring or fit two.maybe your carb is or was over tightened and is warped.your problem is mechanical i think.
look what happens inside by removing the air cleaner and twisting the throttle up and down
you ll get it!!
