I need to check the timing on a "restored" bike I have bought

When setting up/checking a Boyer Micro Mk3 with a strobe - what timing mark on the alternator should I use, and what revs should I be running the engine at?

Thanks

Mark

The boyer will fire both spark plugs at the same time, so I don't think it should matter which one you look at. Just get the revs up over 3000 to fully advance the timing and turn the back plate as needed to line up the mark.

Now since I haven't done this yet to my bike I may be talking out of my butt :-D

FWIW, there's two holes in the stator plate. the bottom one is for triumphs (although i don't think you'd be able to force the other one into position). it's a 10-minute job, but very LOUD. the boyer kit instructions call for 5000 RPMs, but i didn't see much difference after about 3000 like quagmire says. however, 5000 is "by the book" and that much LOUDER to infuriate your neighbors.

Three very important things to do before winding engine out to 5 grand.

ONE Stuff your ears with cotton

TWO Point the bike away from the neighbors house you like least

Three Remove both mufflers.

Now fire up bike and time the engine reving as required.

i live in a pretty tight in-town neighborhood, going through some growing pains associated with "gentrification" (aka "a bunch of yuppies moving in"). i feel i must stay true to my own culture, despite increasing pressure to conform. i must live by a code, and my neighbors should respect my contribution to diversity.

it's important for me to keep my yard full of sun-bleached plastic toys, and grass that comes up to at least mid-calf. rose bushes should never bear flowers and should grow out into the pedestrian right-of-way. four empty beer bottles must be visible in both back and front yards.

there must be at least one partially disassebled vehicle (30 years of age or older) in the back at all times, and that vehicle must be revved up to immoderate RPMs, and fill the air with a cloud of smoke. there should be a constant smell of petroleum products and an oil slick on the driveway.

i do not cuss much, since we live right across from an old holy roller church (best music in town), and i make an effort to wear a shirt when they're coming and going from church (which is all the time).

there's no room for bigotry and intolerance in the world today. if neighbors can't handle 5000 RPMs it's time to perform some kind of neighborhood outreach.

which one you got on the front porch a frigerator or a washer with a wringer?
I found another way to impress the yuppies and rub's is to mount a gun rack on the scoot. Know of one guy around here that used to have an axe head at the top of his sissy bar. fft:
