The main fuse on my '67 bit the dust today, and it was the last OEM Lucas fuse I had. I know that a littel or Busse fuse can be substituted, but that you have to be aware that the amps are rated differently. Problem I have is I'm not sure if I should use a 10, 15 or 20 amp fuse. The Lucas fuse I had was red, and I think it was rated at 30 amps (not sure). I'd rather make a guess with some input from someone who has already faced this dilemma, than to make a cold guess and be wrong and blow a lot of fuses, or worse!

I never knew about British amps and American amps being different, when applied at 12 volts DC....
NOW what am I missing?

Thats just GPZ.They got positive ground, Steering wheels on the right side of the car, Drive on the left side of the road. Whats surprising. If you fuse at 35 amps American you are over fused. Have you been over fusing all these years? I have since my owners manual specifies 35 amps, but dosen't elaborate. Finally knew something about Triumphs you didn't. Got it of the web. Ya, and they drink warm beer even when they haven't been out all night. PS: Acually I think it's 17.5 amps American equal 35 amps UK Kill me if I'm wrong.

I think that only applies to mains voltage. You guys have 120? We get 220-240. Watts / Volts = Amps.

Okie with age comes wisdom
as Okie said Lucas fuse is rated @ 35amp (17.5 amp continuous) If you can't get the correct fuse replace with a SFE20 fuse. US and English fuses are rated differently.
Also if you are in the US Littlefuse brand manufactures
fuses called UK35 AND UK50. That can be used as replacements for the Triumph fuses. SFE20, UK35, and the Lucas 35 amp fuse are all 1 1/4" long. I usually use the SFE20 as they are easily obtainable. Also these fuses are rated @32volts
A long answer for "short" subject.
Oldtimer
only one thing to say to you
" Nuck Nuck Nuck"
u tink me be a stooge?

Amps are amps. Worldwide, afaik.
The difference is in the rating system.
The OEM Lucas fuses are rated @ 17.5a -continuous- with a 30a max or 'blow'. (Not sure if modern UK fuses use this rating system?)
US fuses are rated for continous use. (period) A 30a fuse will carry 30a indefinetly, and 'blow' at somewhere between 25%- 50% over the rated capacity.
Any way you slice it, 30 amps is more than enough to smoke every wire in your harness should things go terribly wrong.
I've replaced the fuses in both my 'riders' with tiny pushbutton circuit breakers rated @ 13a. No problems, so far.
