congrats tinhead. your comments about top-end noise got me thinking:

so how much valve noise is "normal?" i get a lively chatter at idle -- not loud as loud as a poorly tuned VW or an indian enfield, but it does sound like a machine. i kinda like it, but i don't want to damage anything if it should be fixed.

hi john,
i dont think there is anything like "normal " on an old triumph.they all have their personality and this include noise if all your settings (valve clearance ,chain tension etc ) are ok then ,i think, the noise is normal!!
i red somewhere that at the vincent factory the noisy ones were sent to south america...
so.............

Take a mobile phone with you, and the number of someone with a trailer.....just in case.

Be safe, and enjoy all your work.

I was concerned about the sound of my engine in the beginning but if everything is set right it should be OK.

I always leave the trailer hooked to the Jeep and a $20 bill in the dash just in case I have to call someone like my wife, daughter or neighbor.

i've got a pretty good procedure worked out -- wife and toddler come in the car, then i head back to the scene of the crime with my pickup and ramp after i calm down.

man, thank goodness for cell phones. when i learned to ride, we didn't have them. i recall one night when things got higgeldy-piggeldy, and a cell phone would've made all the difference.

but like flash says, we're all still here somehow.

and i don't trust that bike any further than i can push her yet. she has to earn it.

Man, I was just thinking about cell phones the other day. What a blessing. No more pushing them over in the weeds and hiding them so they won't get ripped and start hooking it. But with modern bikes you don't need them very often. Sounds like you got it covered bro' Luck to ya
